Friction Quartet

The Friction Quartet is Kevin Rogers, Otis Harriel, Taija Warbelow, and Doug Machiz.
Selected by the SF Bay Guardian as one of eleven On the Rise artists in 2013, they have
performed 28 world premieres and commissioned thirty new works for string quartet. In
October 2013, they performed the premiere of Garrett Moulton’s A Show of Hands, a dance
work to original music by Dan Becker that features six dancers who interact on stage with
the string quartet. They also recently premiered excerpts from Missy Mazzoli’s new opera
with members of Opera Philadelphia and original commissions by Brendon Randall-Myers and Adam Cuthbert, were the recipients of a 2014 Chamber Music America commissioning grant, and have studied with the St. Lawrence and Muir string quartets.
