Third Coast Percussion premieres DEMOCRACY LOOKS LIKE, the first overtly politically-themed thing i've ever done. it's for amplified Kalimbas and MIDI controllers processed through Ableton Live. it's built in a call/response structure with protest march chant rhythms you'd recognize if you hit the streets for Eric Garner and Mike Brown. and Third Coast Percussion is in Chicago and I love TEKLIFE so there's some footwork-inspired beats in there.
Chi-city, do it up!
TCP launches a new concert initiative, Currents, as part of their Chicago Concert Season, featuring premieres of newly commissioned works by emerging composers and other unique, boundary-pushing repertoire from today’s most creative thinkers. This first Currents concert includes new works by Adam Cuthbert and Third Coast’s own Robert Dillon, as well as a new work commissioned through our Emerging Composers Partnership by Jonathan Pfeffer. Percussionist extraordinaire Ross Karre joins TCP for Mark Applebaum’s kooky and inventive Straitjacket, and contemporary flute master Rachel Beetz joins TCP for Tyshawn Sorey’s Trio for Harold Budd.
